How to Get Rid of Gnats in Your Bixby Home

Bixby Woman Swatting at GnatsIt’s a major annoyance when you find out that your Bixby rental house is having a gnat problem. Although gnats don’t bite or carry diseases, they shouldn’t be around in a clean home. If ripe fruit, trash bags, and even potting soil are around, you can be sure these pests are as well. They seem to pop out from nowhere and can be difficult to remove. But then there are proven ways to keep these gnats away from your house for good.

Apple Cider Vinegar: One of the best ways to eliminate gnats without harsh chemicals is to use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and dish soap. The gnats get attracted to the sugar while the soap serves as a trap. Wherever the gnats are gathering, leave a small bowl of this mixture.

Fly Paper: One low-cost yet effective solution for the gnats problem is flypaper. Although these sticky flypaper ribbons may not be pleasant to the eyes, they work very well trapping these insects in your home.

Bleach the Drains: If you find a lot of gnats around the sink drains, chances are you have drain flies. Pour the affected drains with a solution of bleach and water to rid your house and drain of these pests. In just a little while, savor the satisfaction of having a sink that is gnat-free once again.

Rotten Fruit: Ripe fruits that are present in your house is an invitation to gnats. We can use this strategy to get rid of gnats. Place a piece of ripe or rotten fruit in a bowl and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Using a toothpick, poke a few small holes in the plastic. The flies get in using the holes but somehow cannot figure their way out. The bowl can then be removed from the house with all the trapped flies inside.

Wine Trap: If you have some expired wine handy, you can use it to trap pesky gnats in the same way. In a small bowl, put wine and some dish soap. Leave the mixture where the gnats gather. Lured by the scent, the gnats get trapped in the wine solution. All you have to do next is remove it.

Bug Zapper: For a more aggressive option, use a bug zapper device to get rid of gnats. There are many kinds of bug zappers available but most use electricity to zap flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects. All you have to do is simply place the zapper in an out-of-the-way spot and plug it in.

Chemical Spray: But if the gnat problem gets seriously out of hand, you might have to resort to insecticides. Both foggers and sprays remove gnats very effectively but you’ll have to handle it with care. Always follow the manufacturer’s directions when using chemical insecticides.

With a bunch of ways to remove gnats, you should be able to find one that works best for your pest problem. Are you interested in learning more about how to keep your rental house pest-free?
