Enjoy Great Art and Great Food at the Philbrook Museum

If you’re looking for a place to eat lunch in Tulsa that’s a little bit different from your typical restaurant choices, La Villa restaurant located in the Philbrook Museum offers a dining experience that’s designed to impress even the pickiest of tastes.

La Villa offers a variety of freshly prepared appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and salads, and there’s even a kid’s menu. The restaurant’s chef takes full advantage of the organic herb garden growing in the museum’s Secret Garden located just off the Main Hall to lend a fresh twist to entrees and desserts.

The food is good, but that’s not the only appetizing aspect of La Villa. The dining room features multistory floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the museum grounds, and seasonally, you can dine outdoors at a table that directly overlooks the world-renowned museum gardens.

Notwithstanding La Villa, the Philbrook Museum offers its own attractions. As the epicenter of Tulsa’s art scene, the museum is only one of five in the country to comprise art collections, gardens and an historic home – and what a home! The 72-room mansion was built at the beginning of the 20thcentury by oilman Waite Phillips and his wife, Genevieve, to provide a place for their kids – then 16 and 10 – to hang out with friends, Texas style.

Located on 23 beautifully landscaped acres, the mansion was built in the Italian Renaissance style. In 1938, when the youngest Phillips child had attained the ripe, old age of 21, the Waite and Genevieve announced they were donating the home and grounds to the city of Tulsa to be used as an art museum. Three-quarters of a century later, their legacy remains, and generous donors continue to expand the museum’s collections.

La Villa is open for lunch during the weekdays and brunch on Sunday, and it’s so popular, reservations are recommended – strongly recommended for Sunday brunch.

While you’re there, drop by the museum gift shop for one-of-a-kind items – for friends, family or just for yourself. Proceeds benefit the museum and help fund its upkeep and its exhibits, so you can feel good about indulging.
